Description & Requirement

The mission of the Bureau of Immunization (BOI) is to prevent the occurrence and transmission of diseases through immunization. The Bureau promotes the immunization of children and adults against numerous vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs). The Bureau is seeking to hire a City Medical Specialist to serve as Adult Immunization Medical Specialist. Adult immunization coverage for recommended vaccines remains low and inequity across race, ethnicity and neighborhoods persist. This position will work with the provider community and key stakeholders to promote adult vaccination, including for pregnant women, by planning and implementing evidence-based strategies to increase adult vaccination coverage rates and reducing immunization disparities.

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

--Serve as the subject matter expert for adult immunization and work with both external and internal partners to develop and implement strategies to increase adult vaccination coverage rates and reduce immunization disparities.

--Coordinate all activities outlined in the Adult Immunization Standards Cooperative Agreement. Work with partners include the Pharmacist Society of the State of New York, participating NYC pharmacists and pharmacy schools, the Greater New York Hospital Association and others to implement grant activities.

--Supervise staff, including project manager of the Adult Immunization Standards Cooperative Agreement; develop tasks and standards and evaluate staff performance annually.

--Take a lead role in developing and completing BOI publications focused mainly on adult immunizations, such as the City Health Information and immunization update letters to providers.

--In collaboration with other DOHMH Bureaus to promote adult immunization and monitor and analyze immunization data to improve adult vaccination coverage data.

--Work closely with internal and external stakeholders who are collaborating with BOI to improve awareness, access and use of adult immunizations (including influenza/Tdap vaccines among pregnant females). This includes updating/executing activities in the BOI influenza/Tdap strategic plans.

--Participate in BOI activities to promote immunization across the lifespan and conduct provider and community talks on vaccine-preventable diseases.

--Provide technical assistance and support to New York City hospitals, public and private medical facilities that provide vaccines to adults and participate in the development of initiatives related to adult vaccination standing orders and other policies to increase vaccination rates.

--Work with adult immunization team to identify effective regulatory policies/strategies to increase adult vaccination reporting.

Additional Information:

37.5 paid hours per week with an additional $5.82 per hour for the performance of supervisory duties

Minimum Qual Requirements:

Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of New York; and either:

a) Valid Board Certification issued by the appropriate American Specialty Board in any specialty area required by the agency; or

b) Current approved application on file for admission to the certifying examination given by the appropriate American Specialty Board in any specialty area required by the agency.

In addition to meeting the minimum qualification requirements described above, one year of satisfactory experience practicing in the specialty area is required.


Preferred Skills
--A minimum of 2 years of experience in public health program implementation

--Supervisory experience with demonstrated management skills

--Excellent interpersonal, organizational, problem solving and communication skills; operational knowledge and skills in program planning, development, implementation, management and evaluation.

--Experience in database management; strong analytic skills; experience in preparing and delivering oral presentations

--Knowledge of vaccine-preventable diseases.
