Warbird is seeking an individual with strong experience in the back end of the revenue cycle as an Interim Director of Patient Financial Services - Hospital Billing. This Director level position will assist the current team at a hospital in the Midwest region of the United States. Our client has requested this type of work for a specific project and has engaged Warbird to find the most qualified consultant for the project.

Job Summary: This interim Director is responsible for day to day operations and outcomes of the hospital. Works closely with other managers and administrators and their teams to develop and implement processes for maximum collections on accounts. Accountable for assuring that goals and objectives are met, departmental staff is maintained at appropriate levels to manage work volumes and issues are surfaced quickly and resolved expeditiously. Develops and maintains meaningful data and information, to share internally to optimize operational performance and cash collections. Routinely meets with leadership to provide updates, information, reporting and trending, and plans of action on accounts. Directs Managers and Manages assigned areas of responsibility to provide safe, effective, and appropriate care in a fiscally responsible manner through direction, support and development of staff, and collaboration with other managers. Is responsible for the handling of and solving of any problems related to their areas of assignment. Maintains a working knowledge of functional areas of responsibility.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Comprehensive understanding of operations and leading practices across the revenue cycle continuum.
  • Clear understanding of the impact reporting, Informatics and automation has on revenue cycle operations and financial performance.
  • Ability to establish and manage complex and effective relationships with regional leadership, peers and external partners (i.e., vendors).
  • Ability to lead and motivate groups and individuals, as well as think creatively and strategically to successfully mediate and negotiate with individuals and groups internally.
  • Skilled in managing various leadership layers and function types.
  • Proven ability to generate, manage and govern strategic initiatives, drive decision-making practices, and gain leadership buy-in.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with the demonstrated ability to drive functions in a complex, consensus-oriented environment.
  • Self-directed and motivated with strong analytical skills, systematic and orderly planning abilities, and high attention to details. Project management expertise is highly desirable.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with ability to create and conduct presentations effectively


  1. Minimum 5 years experience within PFS functions, EPIC Experienced is required
  2. Minimum 2 years experience as a PFS Director at other healthcare hospitals and facilities, larger systems or AMC's preferred.
  3. Experience supervising up to 20-50 pp in a prior role.
  4. Bachelor's degree required or significant work experience and success in this area
  5. Strong communicator and team player, this position is assisting the Director in the operations and management of the PFS functions.

Ability to travel Monday - Thursday to be onsite to hospital in the Midwest region.

The project duration will be 4-6 months in length and the travel will be a mix of Sunday PM to Thursday PM OR Monday AM to Thursday PM; all depending on flight and arrival times.
